6 Steps to Install a Ground Termite Bait Station Around Your Home
Installing a termite bait station is a smart and eco-friendly way to protect your property. Here’s a simple 6-step guide to how ground termite baiting works around homes in Malaysia—especially in termite-prone areas like Johor Bahru.
1. Conduct a Termite Site Assessment
Before installation, a licensed pest control expert will assess your property for active termite signs and vulnerable areas.
This includes checking soil conditions, garden edges, perimeter walls, and wooden structures.
Proper placement starts with understanding termite behaviour in your environment.
2. Map Out Strategic Bait Station Points
Bait stations are installed around the perimeter of your home, typically spaced 3 to 5 metres apart.
Extra stations may be added near areas with known termite activity or previous infestations.
Accurate placement ensures a higher chance of intercepting termite foraging paths
3. Drill Holes in Soil for Station Placement
Small holes are drilled into the soil using an auger or digging tool to insert each bait station.
Depth and width must be just enough to keep the station flush with the ground surface, preventing trip hazards or tampering.
This step ensures the bait is securely embedded in termite foraging zones.
4. Insert Termite Bait Stations
Each station contains wood or cellulose-based material that attracts termites.
Some systems use inert bait at first, then switch to toxic bait once termites are detected.
At Pesco Pest Control, we use a baiting-only system—no drilling through concrete, no messy chemicals.
5. Mark and Record the Locations
All bait station positions are marked on a site layout plan for future monitoring.
This helps ensure that each station can be easily found, inspected, and replaced if needed.
Some setups use labelled covers or discreet markers in gardens or yards.
6. Monitor and Refill Regularly
After installation, the stations are checked every 2–4 weeks.
If termite activity is found, the bait is replenished with a slow-acting termiticide that spreads back to the colony.
Monitoring continues until the colony is eliminated—then the station remains as a preventive system.

Why Termite Baiting Works
Unlike chemical spraying or soil injection, termite baiting is safe, non-disruptive, and effective for long-term termite management in Malaysian homes.
It targets the colony directly, preventing re-infestation while protecting the environment and your household.
